1 Corinthians 1 – What Is Wisdom?

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 1:30 NIV

30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

Observation:

This verse points out how Jesus is wisdom for us, which equates to righteousness, holiness, and redemption. I always wonder and seek wisdom from God and he makes it known plainly in his Word what it is.

Righteousness means to be right or following right ways, implying the person is justified, living a life that is pleasing to God.

Holiness is a quality of being set apart or separate to be used for or by God.

Redemption means to be bought back or redeemed. Slaves were redeemed by their masters. We are redeemed by God from death.

Application:

I never knew that wisdom meant righteousness, holiness, and redemption. These are all qualities of Jesus. We are called to seek wisdom and now I see how this all ties in. When we seek wisdom, we are seeking Jesus himself that embodies all this. And when we seek Jesus and follow him, we take on and display these qualities as well. I will seek God and his wisdom. I accept you Jesus as my Lord and Savior.

Prayer:

Lord thank you for you and your wisdom. Thank you for your righteousness, your holiness, your redemption. I praise you almighty Father for your love and care for us. May we all continue to grow in the knowledge of you Jesus and spread your gospel. May we continue to seek you and your wisdom.  In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Romans 3 – About Righteousness Through Faith In Jesus

Scripture:

Romans 3:20, 22 NIV

20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

Observation:

Key points are that the law made us conscious to sin, and that we are credited righteousness by having “faith” in Jesus. This is the flip in the thinking for all believers, that we are “justified” or declared righteous before God, acceptable, through trusting and believing in Jesus Christ.

Application:

I must always remember that it’s about what Jesus did for us and not what I did or can do for God. I must remember that trying to be obedient in the law is okay, as it helps us live a godly life, but in the law itself I am not made righteous. The law just let’s me know I won’t be able to follow it all the time, and it let’s me know I’m truly a sinner. This points me to God and what he’s done for us. He made me righteous before the Father because I have faith in him.

Prayer:

Thank you almighty God for the gift of your son, for giving us eternal life and being made righteous by faith in him. Thank you for the law that makes us conscious of sin, to let us know we are not perfect and can never be, that it points to your son who truly is perfect, and provides a checklist of how we can not save ourselves. I praise you Father and love you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
